The Rainbow Center for Communicative Disorders, founded in 1976 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1977, was established for those with developmental disabilities who needed a more intensive therapy program within an academic environment.
Beginning with three children, the day school now benefits over 60 children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and/or other communication and/or behavioral disorders.
In July 1996, the Rainbow Center expanded to include day habilitation programming for adults with disabilities too severe to function within a supported employment or sheltered workshop setting. Day Habilitation and day care for adults over age 21 is known as Rainbow Options and currently serves 60 adult clients.
